This combination along with its history of attraction and fertile growth of many cultures, has fostered a style of cooking and eating of its own. The coastal center of the state has a special food identity that I've labeled CENTRAL COAST CUISINE. Our fishing industry was founded by predominately Italian and Portuguese fishermen. This history lives on within our menus, with pasta offerings and in how we handle our fish. The Monterey Bay is unique in that not far from the shore the sea drops into a deep-sea cavern. This geographical anomaly gives the gift of incredible seafood variety. A fresh fish special is a nightly happening, in homes and restaurants of our area. The Salinas valley is perhaps the greatest agriculture valley in the world. It is not only a land of rich soil, the daily marine layer, creates micro-climates from the artichokes near the sea to all the wine grapes of the warmer inland. In between, we grow just about everything, with some of the world's greatest quality for us to enhance our plant-based menus. History brought the Chinese, the Japanese, the Swiss and most recently those from south the border, all enriching how we cook and flavor our food here. What a joy to study and experiment with the food stuffs of this region, along with the influences of so many rich cultures. In this book, I share the recipes and experiences of the twenty-years of Pajaro Street Grill, home to Central Coast Cuisine, live-music Fridays, bellydance, and the romance of living.

Number of Pages: 202

Dimensions: 0.43 x 9 x 6 IN

Publication Date: July 31, 2023

Report copyright infringement

by Vickie Frémont (Author)

Le Projet Colibri: Créer à partir de "rien" vient de la légende Amérindienne du colibri qui a inspiré Wangari Maathai, première femme africaine à recevoir le prix Nobel de la paix. Consequently, the main aim of this book is to fill the identified gap. Specifically, this book traces the origin of the Gusii soapstone industry, going through various stages, i.e. the Pre-Colonial, Colonial and Post-Colonial periods. Within this historical context, the book provides an elucidation of the social, economic, political and cultural factors that have impacted on the evolution and/or development of the soapstone industry. A critical issue captured in the book is the fact that, over the years, the soapstone handicraft products have been transformed from being items of utility for the local people to, mainly, becoming non-utility items that are sold to outsiders, particularly international tourists as unique pieces of indigenous handicraft and/or African art. However, it should be noted that, notwithstanding this transformation, indigenous cultural attributes and/or cultural themes that would have otherwise disappeared, due to increased impacts of globalization, are being preserved by the sculpturing of unique indigenous soapstone products. Furthermore, currently, the soapstone industry has become a major source of livelihood for the Gusii people of Tabaka in Southwestern Kenya.

Number of Pages: 134

Dimensions: 0.29 x 9 x 6 IN

Illustrated: Yes

Publication Date: October 12, 2018

Report copyright infringement

by Susan Cooksey (Editor)

"Demonstrates the continuity of textile traditions in new, innovative forms that, in some cases, have not been exhibited in the UnitedStates or acquired by U.S. museums.
