200 Kitchens: Confessions of a Nomad Cook - Paperback

by Gawain Barker (Author)

A lot can happen in 200 kitchens.

A giant razor-clawed lizard attack. An ecstasy overdose on a busy service. A stripper in the cold-room. A twenty-eight-hour day and a hundred-and eight-hour week. Dish-pigs on acid and billionaire special forces bodyguards. Burnt genitalia and the spine-nipple. Not to mention a whole lot of love, hate, madness and magic.

From tropical beaches to corporate skyscrapers and into the homes of the super-rich. At the big food shows, rural vineyards and week-long music festivals. From inner-city restaurants to remote resorts - it's all in a day's work for a gypsy knife-for-hire.

Beyond the food, sex, drugs and laughter, 200 Kitchens is also about the psychology and politics of an industry where permanent physical damage and going insane are not only possible - but very likely.See what it takes to give serious pleasure while in serious pain.

Take a trip through three decades of the bizarre and beautiful and step into biggest variety of kitchens imaginable. From a Pacific Island childhood to working with the superstar TV chefs, this true-life story is a celebration of the world's oldest pleasure.

200 Kitchens is a thought-provoking and very funny odyssey through the magic of cooking . . . and where it can take you.
