End of a rainbow - Hardcover

by Desmond Denton (Author)

When a New York journalist travels to South Africa to investigate a brutal murder linked to a cache of vanished diamonds, she stumbles into a deadly conspiracy that spans decades. Her only ally: Barend Visagie, a legendary bank robber haunted by his past and desperate to reunite with the daughter he lost.

As Barend and his two loyal accomplices race through a landscape torn by corruption and greed, they find themselves hunted by ruthless smugglers, crooked police, and ghosts of their own making. What begins as a search for fortune becomes a fight for redemption-and survival-in a country where every truth comes at a price.

Taut, emotional, and relentlessly suspenseful, End of a Rainbow delivers a gripping blend of crime, conscience, and consequence-echoing the moral complexity of No Country for Old Men and the heart of Road to Perdition. Gritty, emotional, and deeply human, End of a Rainbow is a gripping story of greed, loyalty, and love set against the backdrop of a nation in transition-where every truth has a price, and every dream carries a cost.

Set against the fractured landscape of late-apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa, End of a Rainbow is a gritty, emotionally charged crime thriller that cuts deep into the human cost of greed, loyalty, and redemption.

Barend Visagie is a legendary thief nearing the end of his road-a man shaped by violence, betrayal, and the dangerous promise of diamonds. When a final heist involving a rare and priceless stone goes wrong, Barend discovers that the fortune he's chasing is tied to a far more devastating truth: the fate of the daughter he lost years ago.

As Barend and his two longtime accomplices-Lloyd, a reckless streetwise criminal, and Patrick, a former freedom fighter hardened by moral compromise-race across a country scarred by corruption, they are drawn into a ruthless underworld of smugglers, crooked police, and powerful men who profit from chaos. At the center of it all stands Sergeant Greef, a sadistic enforcer of a broken system, whose pursuit turns personal and merciless.

The search for the diamond becomes a desperate quest to save Barend's daughter, Katelyn-a young woman trapped in the crossfire of crime and power. As father and daughter are slowly drawn back toward one another, Barend is forced to confront the wreckage of his past and the cost of every choice he has made.

Violent, tense, and deeply human, End of a Rainbow blends high-stakes crime with intimate emotional drama. It is a story of fathers and daughters, loyalty tested under fire, and the price paid when wealth is valued above life. In a world where justice is bought and sold, Barend must decide what he is willing to sacrifice-and whether redemption is still possible when everything has a cost.
