Hidden Fury - Hardcover

by Mike Donohue (Author)

Some secrets don't drown. They just wait for the water to rise.

Jersey City PI Marti Wells has seen plenty of bad weather. She has handled the kind that rolls in off the water and the kind that walks through her office door. But when bail bondsman Bear Wachowski hands her a routine skip-trace with a hurricane bearing down on the coast, Marti has no idea she is pulling a thread that runs fifteen years into the past.

The skip has vanished. Two escaped convicts from Rahway are cutting through the city like the storm itself, fast and purposeful and leaving wreckage in their wake. These men are not looking for shelter. Fifteen years ago, a crew walked away with three million dollars that was never recovered. The convicts spent every day of their sentence making sure the one man who knew the location of that money stayed alive long enough to pay them back.

As the power grids fail and the Hudson overruns its banks, the case stops being about the money. Marti discovers that her closest friend is guarding secrets that were never meant to be spoken aloud. In a city where the police have retreated and the water is still rising, the mystery becomes a fight for survival. Marti must decide who is truly innocent and how much truth a person can bury before it finally buries them back.

Hidden Fury is a propulsive and atmospheric thriller about loyalty, betrayal, and the weight of the lies we carry for the people we love. It is a story of a city under siege by the worst storm in a generation. The water is rising. The past is catching up. And three million dollars says not everyone makes it to morning.
