IT'S AN ITALIAN THING! NO, IT'S A BLACK THING

• "Fran is able to write with great authenticity about the journey as a trans woman, and the authenticity has the power to inspire. Overall, she gravitates toward giving expression to issues of social justice and social change, especially as they affect the LGBTQAI+ community, in both this story and in her autobiographical work called 'Once a Boy, ' with which I'm very familiar. Gretchen Cryer, playwright, lyricist and actress. Along with Nancy Ford, she created several successful stage musicals, including 'Shelter, ' 'I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road, ' and 'The Last Sweet Days of Isaac.'"
• "I'm very glad to see this story in book form, with the potential to reach many thousands of people. It's not only very funny and clever in its treatment of the differences between Italian-Americans and African-Americans, but all types of differences. Members of the Brazen Giant Ensemble, me included, enjoyed helping Fran with developing the many scenes at Players Theater in Manhattan and elsewhere... Christian Kelber, actor of stage, screen and TV, co-founder of the Brazen Giant Ensemble, author of several produced scripts and screenplays."
• "I enjoyed Fran's development of the characters and scenes, including the nuances of the black characters. I especially like the way the characters, despite differences, find common ground through family, friends, kindness and fairness. Sarah Bracey White, a Southern storyteller who draws on personal history to craft poetry, short stories, essays, memoirs, fiction, and plays."
• "With the musical instincts of a poet and a storyteller's command of effective, slice-of-life particulars, Fran Sisco renders a memorable, funny, painful, but hopeful portrait that reminds us that love is the most vital element in our quest to know who we are. Michael Tyrell, author of 'The Wanted' and other poetry collections."
