Lord Of The World - Hardcover

by Robert Hugh Benson (Author)

Lord of the World is a dystopian novel written by Robert Hugh Benson, first published in 1907. The story is set in the early 21st century and follows the rise of a charismatic politician named Julian Felsenburgh, who becomes the leader of a global government. Felsenburgh is seen as a savior by many, but his true intentions are gradually revealed as the story progresses. The novel explores themes of religion, politics, and the end of the world. It depicts a world in which secularism has triumphed over religion, and the Catholic Church has been marginalized. The story follows the journey of a Catholic priest named Father Percy Franklin, who is sent on a mission to convert Felsenburgh to Catholicism. Along the way, he meets a number of other characters who are struggling to find meaning in a world that has lost its spiritual center. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Felsenburgh is not the savior he appears to be. His government becomes increasingly authoritarian, and he begins to use violence to suppress dissent. Meanwhile, a mysterious comet appears in the sky, signaling the end of the world. As the comet draws closer, the characters are forced to confront their own mortality and the ultimate meaning of life.Lord of the World is a thought-provoking and haunting novel that explores the dangers of political and religious extremism. It is a cautionary tale about the importance of preserving our spiritual traditions and values in the face of a rapidly changing world. From right to left of the huge interior, across the platforms, swelling every instant, surged an enormous swaying, roaring crowd. The flight of steps, twenty yards broad, used only in cases of emergency, resembled a gigantic black cataract nearly two hundred feet in height. Each car as it drew up discharged more and more men and women, who ran like ants towards the assembly of their fellows. The noise was indescribable. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
