Lost on Long Island - Hardcover

by Lisa Czarina Michaud (Author)

Music was the only honest thing they had.

It's 2001 and two college dropouts start a band. What starts in a basement on Long Island becomes a cross-country road trip - and a connection deeper than music.

When Carla runs into Pete, the mysterious French kid on Long Island, a secret connection sparks between them where they talk vinyl, and life beyond the 'burbs. Surrounded by an eccentric crew of misfits who cheer on the band and nudge them closer together, Pete's girlfriend grows suspicious while Carla's mother shames her. Before their cross-country road trip, tragedy strikes, forcing them to decide if this is just a fleeting escape or the gateway to true freedom-and perhaps to each other.

Lost on Long Island is a coming-of-age tale with analog roots grounded in vinyl and early-aughts pop culture. It's High Fidelity meets Normal People for the dial-up era, exploring tension in more-than-friendships, the chaos of growing up, the family dysfunction we run from, and the playlists that get us through it all.
