by Jessie L. Weston (Translator)

A classic Arthurian romance presented in Jessie L. Weston's accessible rendering of the medieval masterpiece.

In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a mysterious challenger arrives at King Arthur's court, proposing a beheading game that sets in motion a year-long test of courage, honor, and truth. Sir Gawain accepts the challenge, journeying through winter wilderness to confront the Green Knight at the appointed hour. Along the way, he faces trials not only of physical bravery but of temptation, humility, and moral resolve.

Jessie L. Weston's translation brings the late fourteenth-century poem into clear modern English while preserving its narrative tension and symbolic richness. The story's fusion of chivalric adventure and spiritual allegory has secured its place as one of the great works of medieval literature. Through Weston's rendering, the poem's themes of integrity, mortality, and the limits of perfection remain vivid for contemporary readers.
