The Enchanted April - Hardcover

by Elizabeth Von Arnim (Author)

In the bleak, rain-drenched gloom of 1920s London, Mrs. Wilkins and Mrs. Arbuthnot are suffocating under the weight of dreary marriages and dreary lives. When an advertisement in The Times offers a furnished medieval castle on the Mediterranean to be let for the month of April, a desperate plan is hatched. To afford the rent, they recruit two unlikely companions: the formidable, elderly Mrs. Fisher and the dazzling but disillusioned socialite Lady Caroline Dester.

As the sun-drenched shores of San Salvatore work their magic, the initial friction between these mismatched women begins to dissolve. Amidst the fragrance of wisteria and the warmth of the Italian sun, inhibited hearts open, fractured relationships heal, and all four discover that happiness is not entirely out of reach.

Elizabeth von Arnim's 1922 masterpiece is a timeless, witty, and beautifully poignant celebration of female friendship, rejuvenation, and the transformative power of a change of scenery.
