This Crowded Earth: A Positronic Book - Hardcover

by Robert Bloch (Author)

In this novel Bloch imagines a future in which humanity has multiplied beyond the comfortable limits of the planet, forcing society to adapt to an existence defined by scarcity of space, privacy, and personal freedom. Daily life unfolds within vast, densely populated cities where every aspect of human activity is regulated in order to maintain order within an increasingly crowded world.

Through the experiences of individuals struggling to preserve their identity and dignity within this environment, Bloch explores the human cost of technological progress and social engineering. The novel raises questions about the balance between collective survival and personal liberty, presenting a society in which the pressures of overpopulation reshape the structures of work, family, and government.

Written during the mid-twentieth century, This Crowded Earth reflects the period's growing anxieties about demographic expansion and the future of civilisation. Combining imaginative speculation with social commentary, the novel stands as one of Bloch's most intriguing ventures into the territory of science fiction.
