What! No Chili! - Paperback

by Rose-Mary Rumbley (Author), Susan Rowden (Illustrator), Karen Rumbley (Contribution by)

This is a unique title from noted Texas author and storyteller, Rose-Mary Rumbley. Part travel guide, part cookbook and all intertwined in an entertaining story, Rose-Mary takes the reader to almost 50 Texas communities and explores the unique tastes and culture that help make Texas such a special state. Hank opens the Big Bite of Texas Café, but it's a flop with no customers. He has left chili, the "official" Texas dish, off the menu. When Tammy Sue helps Hank whip up some super Texas chili, Hot Shot, also known as Cuisine Genie, pops out of the pot and gives them a personal tour of Texas food festivals. They visit the Onion Festival in Noonday, the East Texas town of Athens, home of the "inventor" of hamburgers, the Oatmeal Festival at-of course-Oatmeal, Texas, the town with the "crazy water," the apple, the corn, peanut, rice, and pumpkin festivals. Young and old alike get a great taste of Texas history with some meaty and little known facts about Texas towns. And if it's more than history you have a craving for, look in the back and find some interesting recipes-all using chili peppers.
